The 2019 and 2020 versions of the Ford GT Heritage in Gulf liveries

Bringing the black Ford GT '66 Heritage and red Ford GT '67 Heritage into the modern age, the 2019 and 2020 liveries will boast the famous blue and orange of Gulf Oil. This special series will pay tribute to the Ford GT40 Mk I winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1968 and 1969 fielded by John Wyer Automotive Engineering.

Outfitted with exclusive equipment as were the first two versions of the Heritage, the 2019 and 2020 Ford GTs will sport the same liveries since the same chassis, the 1075, won the 1968 and 1969 editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car has a remarkable history, including four wins in 1968 alone (Brands Hatch, Spa, Watkins Glen and Le Mans) and two victories in 1969, namely the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

With the exception of the 1968 24 Hours and the 1969 Rolex 24 at Daytona (Hobbs/Hailwood), the car was always entrusted to Jacky Ickx. It was at the wheel of this Ford GT40 that the Belgian driver, along with Jackie Oliver, clinched the first of his six wins at the legendary endurance race after starting dead last in the wake of his protest of the Le Mans start. The preceding year, the top step on the podium was claimed by Lucien Bianchi and Pedro Rodriguez.

The option to claim the numbers 9 and 6 to represent the 1968 and 1969 wins, respectively, is available to future buyers. The first two versions were immediately snatched up, and the new Ford GT Heritage will be available in a very limited edition at an undisclosed price by the American marque.

Though for its first appearance in 2016 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans the Ford GT won the LMGTE Pro class - 50 years to the day after the first of its four consecutive victories - it failed to repeat the feat in 2017, settling for second place, and third this year.
