On October 28, 1636, prestigious Harvard University was founded in Connecticut. On June 10, 1978, Harvard graduate John Paul, Sr. won in his class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Dick Barbour Racing's #90 Porsche 935.

John Paul, Sr., real name Hans-Johan Paul, has led quite the unique life. Born in the Netherlands in 1939, he emigrated to the U.S. and earned a grant to study at Harvard University, from which he graduated with a master's degree. He then went on to become a racing driver and won, with his son John Paul, Jr., the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1982, after winning in the FIA World Endurance Drivers Challenge in 1978 and 1980.

Paul participated three times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, between 1978 et 1982, with as best results fifth place and a class win in 1978 in Dick Barbour Racing's Porsche, along with owner Dick Barbour and Brian Redman. At the same time, he was involved in drug trafficking and was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for various crimes and offenses, eventually compounded by an escape attempt, but was finally released after a 15-year stint. After being interrogated about the disappearance of his girlfriend, he took off in his boat, which he then put up for sale before disappearing from radar screens in 2001. The file has never been closed…
