Photo of the Day - 1950: the first Cadillac at Le Mans

The first Cadillac rolled off the production line in Detroit on 17 October 1902 but it wasn’t until 1950 that the emblematic prestige car lined up on the grid at Le Mans. Owner/driver Briggs Cunningham shared the wheel with Phil Waters and they came a respectable eleventh overall.

Where does the name Cadillac come from? From its birthplace! The city of Detroit was named in the 18th Century, after its founder Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. At the time, Detroit was part of New France, which was conceded in 1763 and later formed part of Canada, Acadia and Louisiana.
