The 2022 FIA WEC season ended with the 8 Hours of Bahrain this weekend. French driver Lilou Wadoux made her Hypercar debut during the traditional Rookie Test which rounds off the year.
During the two test sessions, Wadoux took a seat in the Richard Mille Racing Team #8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid. Wadoux was the first woman to drive a top-category endurance racing car since Vanina Ickx in 2011.
She finished the morning session fourth on the timesheets, completing 33 laps with a best time of 1:50.953. “It was a great experience. The GR010 Hybrid has impressive speed", she enthused. "It is nothing like an LMP2, which are heavier and handle differently. I learned a lot in the session, particularly about the hybrid system, which is new to me, and needs some getting used to. It was a dream come true to drive a car like this. I would love a seat in a Hypercar one day."
Doriane Pin also took part in the Rookie Test. After a promising season with Iron Dames, the winner of this year’s Ferrari Challenge took the wheel of JOTA’s #38 Oreca 07-Gibson. “Today was important to me. It’s a sign of progress be singled out to test for LMP2, so it’s a big day for me and a big step for women in motorsport. I learned a lot. Driving an LMP2 was incredible. The speed and the aerodynamics on the corners are very different to the GTs I’m used to. Precision and speed are key. I had never driven here and the first time on a circuit is always a pleasure.”
