Ten years ago, Sebring International Raceway was the setting for the curtain-raiser to the inaugural FIA World Endurance Championship season. The WEC returns to the venue next month for a 1000-mile race that will be held the day before the 12 Hours of Sebring, the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
It will undoubtedly be anything but a smooth ride for the Hypercars’ very first outing on American soil at the former military airfield. Four Hypercars are due to tackle the famous bumpy Sebring surface: two Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrids, the Alpine Elf Matmut A480-Gibson and a Glickenhaus 007 LMH.
The LMGTE Pro class will be a three-way battle between Ferrari, Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche. Corvette Racing has committed to the full WEC season this year and will be determined to figure strongly in the team’s home race. Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy will share driving duties in the #64 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R.
A record 15 cars will make up the LMP2 field with Team Penske, Prema Orlen Team, Vector Sport and Ultimate among the newcomers to WEC. Team Penske is, of course, already preparing for the 2023 season with the Porsche Hypercar, while Vector Sport will bank on the expertise of Sébastien Bourdais. The 1000 Miles of Sebring will also see Formula One driver Esteban Gutiérrez and eight-time world rally champion Sébastien Ogier make their endurance race débuts with Inter Europol Competition and Richard Mille Racing respectively.
Last but not least, 13 cars are expected to battle it out for the LMGTE Am points.

Before the opening round of the WEC season gets underway, the cars will take to the Sebring track on 12-13 March for the traditional Prologue.
The Sebring event will also see the introduction of TotalEnergies’ new 100% renewable fuel for motorsport competition, Excellium Racing 100. This bioethanol-based fuel will cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 65% compared with conventional fossil fuels.
Four female drivers will compete in the race: the three Iron Dames in the #85 Ferrari 488 GTE EVO and Lilou Wadoux in the #1 Oreca 07-Gibson fielded by Richard Mille Racing.
