Fernando Alonso: "Le Mans once a year is not enough!"

Fernando Alonso watched from the pit as teammate Kazuki Nakajima - at the wheel of the #8 Toyota - passed under the checkered flag the overall winner at the 86th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Japanese marque's historic first win at the race.

After finishing his final stint, two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso helped teammate Kazuki Nakajima climb into the cockpit, then took off his helmet for the last time of this edition of the race. Fernando Alonso:"Le Mans once a year is not enough! It needs to be every three weeks!" Through the course of the night, the Spanish driver earned his Le Mans driver's stripes, clocking fast lap times and padding the gap by more than a minute with the sister car driven by María López.

"I felt great tonight. I don't know exactly how, but I managed to make the tires work for us at the right time despite the cool air temp. Our pace has been good and I was lucky with the traffic as well. We were fastest overnight and we're the fastest on the track now. We need to bring it home!"

Reflecting on the past week, this first experience, Alonso admits: "I've always had enormous respect for this race, and I didn't expect to go after the win in my first participation. We have an excellent car and a fanstastic team! Like I said, now we need to finish the job!"
