24 Hours of Mans – Lamborghini announces first two drivers for Hypercar program

Lamborghini has revealed the names of the first two drivers set to participate in the Hypercar class in 2024 in the FIA WEC and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Currently working on the car's development, Andrea Caldarelli and Mirko Bortolotti, both already competitors in top GT races with Lamborghini, have been confirmed.

Lamborghini Head of Motorsport, Giorgio Sanna: "We are especially proud to announce Mirko and Andrea as the first drivers for the LMDh program. Both have contributed substantially to achieving historic results for Lamborghini in GT racing and their addition to the LMDh project also rewards their continued commitment to the Squadra Corse family. I’m sure their talent and experience will be an added asset to our competitiveness in the premier endurance class."

Born in Trento, Italy on 10 January 1990, Mirko Bortolotti began his racing career in karting before winning the Italian Formula 3 Championship and the FIA Formula 2 title. He has served as an official Lamborghini driver since 2015, won the 2017 Blancpain GT Series, and claimed the top step on the podium at the 2018 and 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 2019 12 Hours of Sebring in GTD representing GRT Grasser Racing Team Huracán. Bortolotti is currently leading the DTM Championship classification. Mirko Bortolotti: "I’m so happy to continue my career with Lamborghini and to start an exciting new chapter. And I’m very grateful to Squadra Corse for making the LMDh project possible, and for the unconditional trust they have put in me since 2014. Representing the brand on the most important endurance racing stage and competing for overall victory in the great endurance classics is both an honor and a responsibility."

Bortolloti took the start in his rookie 24 Hours of Le Mans this year at the wheel of Team WRT's #32 ORECA 07-Gibson with teammates Rolf Ineichen and Dries Vanthoor, finishing 15th overall and 11th in LMP2.

After starting out in karting and European formula races. Andrea Caladarelli (age 32) moved to Japan and pursued an impressive career in Super GT. In 2017, he was recruited by Lamborghini as an official driver and contributed to winning the Blancpain GT Series title with Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart for Grasser Racing Team Huracán GT3. Two years later, he served as Orange 1 FFF Racing's team principal and earned the "triple crown" of the GT World Challenge Europe at the wheel of its Huracán GT3 EVO shared with Marco Mapelli. In 2020, Caladarelli won the GTD class at the Rolex 24 at Daytona for Paul Miller Racing and has made a name for himself in the Fanatec GT World Challenge with K-PAX Racing since 2021. Andrea Caladarelli: "Back in 2017, when I started racing for Lamborghini, I had the goal of fulfilling my childhood dream to race with my favorite brand of car in the most prestigious endurance races. I had the opportunity to race at the Circuit de la Sarthe in 2022, winning both heats of the Road to Le Mans with the Huracán GT3, and it was really special. I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of an LMDh. I’m really excited about this new adventure, and I’ll do my best to bring all my experience to this project and to win new and prestigious trophies."
