24 Hours of Le Mans - The Race of Records (1/2)

Thanks to the singularity and longevity of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the race’s history is brimming with records.

Some records are impressive, others are quirky.
Read on for a round-up of the facts and figures of the iconic race.

Performance

251.815 kph
The average speed of the fastest lap in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
It was set by Hans-Joachim Stuck in 1985 at the wheel of a Porsche 962 during the qualifying session.
At the time, the circuit was 13.626km long and he completed a lap in 3’14”80.

5 410.713 km
The longest distance covered during the 24 hours.
The record is held by the three Audi R15 TDI+ that managed a one-two-three sweep in 2010. It is the equivalent of 397 laps of the circuit.

405 kph
The top speed attained on the circuit by Roger Dorchy in a WM P88 on the Mulsanne Straight in 1988.
This record has little chance of ever being broken as two chicanes have been installed on the straight since then.

Cars

1,000 hp
The power of the LM P1 hybrid systems.
Used by Audi, Porsche and Toyota, which combine a combustion and electric engine. Each constructor uses a different combustion engine: Audi uses a V6 diesel, Porsche a V4 petrol and Toyota a V6 petrol engine.

875kg
The minimum weight required for an LM P1.
Which is the same as a Smart Fortwo! Drivers must not weigh less than 80kg on average. If they are lighter, they have to be weighed down.

30%
The required reduction in energy consumption for the LM P1 class.
(Audi, Porsche, Toyota) following a change in the rules and thanks to new technology. The reduction required is greater than that achieved over the last thirty years.
