Highlights of the morning session

Neel Jani (#2 Porsche 919 Hybrid) bagged the best time in the morning session of Test Day. At 03:22.334, Jani eventually beat the #1 Porsche that had been in the lead for most of the session. The second Audi R18 wasn’t far behind. In fact there was only four-tenths of a second between the top four. The two Toyotas were next.

In LM P2, Nicolas Lapierre (#36 Alpine A460-Nissan) was quickest, at 03:37.397. He was ahead of the two Oreca 05-Nissans, the #33 fielded by Eurasia Motorsport and Manor’s #44 that led for the most part.

The two works Porsche 991 RSRs (#91 and #92) topped the leader board with last year’s LM  GTE Pro class winner, the #64 Corvette C7R in third place.

Matthew Griffin in the #55 Ferrari F458 Italia heads LM GTE Am on 03:58.869, which is faster than the best Test Day time last year. Townsend Bell is a tenth of a second behind him. The #98 Aston Martin Vantage stands third.

A word from the drivers

Loïc Duval (#8 Audi R18): We’ve got quite a few things to sort out. We’re trying different things on each car to compare the data. We’re hoping for better weather this afternoon. We’re really excited to be back here.

Nicolas Lapierre (#36 Alpine): We made the most of the track being dry. It was important that my teammates get their laps in because they’re all beginners. I try to give them the benefit of my experience because Le Mans is a one-of-a-kind circuit and difficult at first. We have three series of tyres to try out today. For the moment all is well.

Christophe Tinseau (#84 Morgan Nissan LM P2): Everything is going to plan. Frédéric Sausset has done his ten mandatory laps. He’ll continue getting to know the circuit this afternoon. He drove pretty well and he’s getting faster at each lap.

Marino Franchitti (#67 Ford GT): I hadn’t come to Le Mans since 2013 and I’m glad to be back. The track has good grip. The car is gorgeous, well-balanced and is performing satisfactorily.
