24 Hours of Le Mans – Road to Le Mans Race 1

Defending LMP3 champion DKR Engineering snatched the win in the final lap of the race, while the Lamborghini Huracan fielded by FFF Racing Team by ACM dominated the GT3 class.

Having started from pole position, Wayne Boyd's #23 Ligier completed its first lap still in the top spot. Throughout a duel for the lead just before the pit stop window, Boyd and David Droux, at the wheel of Realteam Racing's #4 Ligier, alternated clocking the fastest in-race lap. Once the stops executed, the lead changed: the Ligier fielded by Realteam Racing held a four-second advantage on the United Autosports team's Ligier. At that moment, the rest of the top 5 was rounded out by Cool Racing and DKR Engineering. But, Droux's teammate Esteban Garcia lost ground over the laps, falling to sixth position just three laps from the finish. At the wheel of DKR Engineering's #3 Duqueine, Laurents Hörr took the lead in the final stretch, and under the chequered flag less than two seconds separated the Duqueine from Cool Racing's two Ligiers (#37 and #69). Matt Bell claimed the third step on the podium and clocked the best in-race lap in the final minutes (3:47.535).

In the GT3 class, the #63 Lamborghini took advantage of its pole position and won the race. On its heels were Iron Lynx's #8 and #77 Ferraris, Kessel Racing's #74 and #50 Ferraris, but the #93 of SKY Tempesta Racing managed to slip into third place for awhile, but finished at the foot of the podium. The #63 Lamborghini Huracan of Caldarelli/Hamaguchi triumphed with more than seven seconds to spare on the Ferraris of Piccini/Mastronardi (#8 Iron Lynx) and Broniszewski/Perel (#74 Kessel Racing).

The second Road to Le Mans race will take place Saturday 19 September at 11:15. Cool Racing's #37 Ligier and Iron Lynx's #8 Ferrari will start from the pole in the LMP3 and GT3 classes, respectively.
