24 Hours of Le Mans 2016 - Test Day key numbers

Test Day for the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans 2016 - which took place last Sunday - let teams familiarize themselves with the track for the big race on June 18th and 19th. Let's take a look at the stats from the sessions to learn more about the performances in the different classes.

3:21:375

This was the best time clocked at Test Day. It belongs to the No. 8 Audi R18 of Lucas di Grassi, Loïc Duval and Oliver Jarvis. Brazilian driver di Grassi recorded the time during the R18's 65th run in front of the timekeeper. After about seven hours of testing, this time seemed to signal improvement in performances from all the cars in the LM P1 class, the track being "faster" at the end of the day. But a red flag ending the session prevented the drivers from trying to beat this time. It is very close to the 3:21:061 achieved in 2015 by Brendon Hartley during Test Day (in the No. 17 Porsche 919 Hybrid).

In LM P2, the best time of the day went to Tristan Gommendy in 3:36:690 (Oreca 05 of the Eurasia Motorsport team). It is five seconds faster than the best one in 2015, 3:41:919, clocked by the No. 34 Ligier JS P2 of the Oak Racing team. In 3:55:122, the No. 63 Corvette C7.R was the fastest of the LM GTE Pros, and obliterated the 3:58:069 clocked at Test Day last year. Same thing in the LM GTE Am, the 3:57:999 of Larbre Compétition's Corvette C7.R was faster than the 3:59:338 of the Aston Martin Vantage V8 entered in the same class at Test Day in 2015. So everyone has made progress in one year, except in the LM P1 class…

3:20:970

This is the ideal lap for the No. 2 Porsche 919 Hybrid if one combines the best efforts from its drivers, in other words the first and third by Romain Dumas, and the second by Neel Jani.

3:20:929

If all the best efforts of Test Day 2016 are combined, you get the virtual best time. To do so, you must add the first effort by Romain Dumas, the second by Neel Jani and the third by Mark Webber.

2:346

This is the difference between the best and worst times from the hybrid cars entered, the No. 5 and No. 6 Toyota TS 050s. Is it an important gap? The No. 6 was timed in 3:23:197, so only 1:822 seconds from the best time of the day. The best time possible for the No. 5 Toyota TS 050 (by combining its best efforts) was 3:23:359, which places it at virtually less than two seconds. The gaps are minimal and the teams haven't revealed their full potential!

10

This is the number of drivers at the top of the timesheet at least once. Sébastien Buemi (No. 5 Toyota TS 050 Hybrid) was the first after only 7 minutes 30 seconds, then less than a half second later Alexander Wurz (No. 6 Toyota TS 050 Hybrid). The other drivers to have led were Timo Bernhard and Mark Webber (No. 1 Porsche 919 Hybrid), Romain Dumas and Neel Jani (No. 2 Porsche 919 Hybrid), Marcel Fässler and André Lotterer (No. 7 Audi R18), and lastly Oliver Jarvis and Lucas di Grassi (No. 8 Audi R18).

14

The LM GTE Pro field is comprised of 14 entries. It will be highly competitive given the times clocked during Test Day! The 14 competitors are all within two seconds.

97

The No. 6 Toyota TS 050 Hybrid did 97 laps at the Circuit de la Sarthe during Test Day. No other car did better! The No. 1 Porsche 919 Hybrid followed with 90 laps, and the No. 13 Rebellion R-One and the No. 38 Gibson 015S Nissan of G-Drive Racing shared the third spot with 89 laps. In LM GTE Pro, the No. 64 Corvette C7.R completed the most laps on the track with 81, and in LM GTE Am, Clearwater Racing's Ferrari 458 Italia did 83 laps.

336 km/h

This was the top speed during Test Day. A Porsche? No. An Audi? No. A Toyota? No! It was clocked by the Rebellion R-One with Nelson Piquet, Jr. at the wheel. Second was the second R-One, with Mathéo Tuscher debuting at the wheel (334.9 km/h).The hybrid cars weren't far behind with 332.9 km/h for the best Audi R18 (Loïc Duval in the No. 8), 330.8 km/h for the best Toyota (Anthony Davidson in the No. 5) and lastly 324.9 km/h for the best Porsche (Romain Dumas in the No. 2). The two Alpine A460s dominated in LM P2 (310.9 km/h for Stéphane Richelmi in the No. 36 and 310.0 km/h for Ho-Pin Tung in the No. 35). In LM GTE Pro, Aston Martin was on top with 302.2 km/h for Marco Sørensen in the No. 95 Vantage and Jonathan Adam followed with 300.5 km/h in the No. 97. Lastly, in LM GTE Am, French driver François Perrodo was the fastest with 297.2 km/h in the No. 83 Ferrari 458 Italia entered by AF Corse.
