For a responsible economy

#CIRCULARECONOMY
The second pillar is key to event organisation. From sustainable management to our contribution to local economies, we consider the impact of everything we do.

The whole ACO setup benefits from this commitment.
  • Responsible catering
To organise the 24 Hours of Le Mans, ACO engage its ecosystem in a circular and responsible approach integrating the products, catering or infrastructures in order to lower their impact.
This ambition is supported since many years with committed food providers, such caterers, certified ISO 20121.
However, ACO wishes to go further by engaging caterers in its Race to 2030 program. Whether with local supply, reduction of disposal containers, action to reduce food waste or recovery of biowaste.

As part of its responsible approach, ACO as decided to invest on waste management optimization on the circuit especially during the events, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Since 2023 together with Paprec, more then 2 000 new sorting bins have been installed on the circuit.
Paprec and ACO have targeted to optimize the sorting with a target for 2030 of 80% of waste recovery (se sont ainsi fixés une optimisation du tri avec un objectif à horizon 2030 de 80% de valorisation matière (namely: sorting, recylcing and organic valorization).
For the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2024, the waste recovery reached 55,64% (vs 45,26 % in 2023) align with the targets set.

    A CIRCULAR APPROACH

  • restos du coeur
In 2019 we struck up a partnership with nationwide food bank Les Restos du Coeur, donating leftover food during events as part of our commitment to responsible catering. In the first year, some 1567 kg were collected and distributed to local people in need.

Last year, the club and the teams that participate in our events donated over 35,4 tonnes of food to the charity. During this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans alone, we sent 10.28 tonnes of food to be distributed to those in need. In 2022, the partnership was extended, and the Restos du Coeur now has a distribution centre next to the circuit, enabling rapid distribution within Le Mans and beyond. The centre, located on ACO grounds, now has a community garden.

The fight against food waste also found another outlet in Pain Contre La Faim, a local charity which collects unsold bread to make breadcrumbs.

For almost a century, the 24 Hours of Le Mans has been a fixture of economic and cultural heritage, locally and on a national and international scale.
In 2023, the 24 Heures of Le Mans contributed 162,1 million € to the French economy. More then 89% of our expenditure are allocated to suppliers located at less then 200 km from the venue. The 24 Hours of Le Mans generated, in 2023, the equivalent of 1 060 full-time jobs.
Outside the celebrated endurance race, other activities continue apace all year round.
The venue hosted over 400 business events in 2023, while the 24 Hours Museum attracted record numbers with almost 210,000 visitors over the year. The Karting des 24 Heures was also busy with over 31,000 sessions held in 2023.
