Back in the day, Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, born in Vienna, hoped to contribute very quickly to motorsports and contacted Renault Sport to that end. Renault Sport made him a proposition to become a part of the F1 outfit. Unfortunately, it soon ended its involvement in competition and the offer became null and void.
So he turned to Porsche beginning its work on the TAG Porsche engine for Formula 1. In 1993, the head of the Audi sporting branch asked him if he would like to take his place. That was the beginning of a very long period of success in endurance (107 victories including 13 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans) as well as in DTM.
In the first video, relive the highlights of Dr. Ullrich's career and his drivers' reactions. In the video below, check out the tribute paid by the press to this great man at the 6 Hours of Bahrain.
