The United States will be represented both in GT and Prototype classes in the FIA World Endurance Championship 2012 through Krohn Racing and Starworks Motorsports.

No stranger to Le Mans 24 Hours (six appearances), and regular competitors in American Le Mans Series and Grand Am, Tracy Krohn finished the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup 2011 in second place behind the LM GTE Am of Larbre Competition. In 2012, Krohn Racing continues its racing programme in the World Championship in that category. They remain loyal to Ferrari and exchange the F430 GT for a 458 Italia. Recall that in the LM GTE Am class there ia only one professional driver allowed per team, and its grid this year consists of cars conforming to 2011 regulations.

Conversely, the arrival of Starworks Motorsports is a real novelty. This team was one of the contenders to victory in the 2012 24 Hours of Daytona. They took pole position and finished in second place, only a few seconds behind the victors, with the aid of a former winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Allan McNish. The second Ford-Riley of the American team reached the finish in tenth position. In the FIA World Endurance Championship, Starworks Motorsports will race a Honda ARX-03b in LM P2. They will also be the only Honda prototype in this category, facing Oreca, Morgan, Lola and Zytek.

Four other American teams will join the 24 Hours of Le Mans: Dyson Racing (LM P1), Level 5 Motorsports (LM P2) Corvette Racing (LM GTE Pro) and Flying Lizard Motorsports, who will be both present in LM GTE Pro and Am. Also remember that the FIA World Endurance Championship 2012, opens in the USA at the 12 Hours of Sebring on March 17th.
