Tom Walkinshaw, owner of the eponymous team, has died of cancer at the age of 64. The Scot will remain forever in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Racing driver, Tom Walkinshaw gradually moved to the other side of the barrier by creating his own team in the seventies. In mid 1980 he was appointed by Jaguar to help the manufacturer to go racing. The program lead to two victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1988, 1990), and three series titles in World Sportscar (1987, 1988 and 1991).

Later, he produced the Jaguar XJ220, a supercar with a road race version won the 24 Hours of Le Mans GT class in 1993 (but was eventually downgraded due to non-compliance). During his career, Walkinshaw led Formula 1 teams, Benetton, Ligier and Arrows. Plagued by recurring financial difficulties, TWR finally folded in 2002.
