The Order of the Dannebrog, created in 1671 by King Christian V, has rewarded the many sports trophies that the Danish driver has earned throughout his career. Tom Kristensen is the first driver to receive this royal honour: "I am very proud. It is a great honour to know that the Royal Family follows my career and that it recognizes me as an athlete and Danish ambassador." The Hobro native is also the first, and only for now, to have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans nine times.

Kristensen's name is often associated with Audi, though the Dane won his first titles at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1997 with the Porsche entered by the TWR-Joest outfit and at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1999 with BMW. It is nonetheless with Audi that Kristensen became an American Le Mans Series Champion in 2002 and FIA Endurance World Champion last year, along with Loïc Duval and his former accomplice now retired, Allan McNish. Seven of "Tom K's" nine victories in La Sarthe were also achieved with Audi.

Knighted in the first level of six in the Order of the Dannebrog, would a 10th victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans allow Kristensen to climb the ladder?
