ACO : What can you tell us about the Onyx ?
DL : Onyx was created for the Paris Auto Show in 2012. Its chassis is made of carbon fibre and is covered with a one-millimetre layer of copper formed by hand. The mechanicals are the same of the 908 that raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. You'll find the same V8 HDi motor producing 650 hp, the same gearbox, and the same rolling gear as the Peugeot Sport 908s. Last month we tested the car at the Castellet circuit. The driver pushed it to 230 kph but the Onyx could easily reach 350-400 kph.
ACO : What is the plan for this car, both in the short and long terms ?
DL : At the base of it, this is a concept car which was really made so that our designers could really stretch out and create lines that they'd like to see on an everyday car in the future. In fact, there are already some design cues that will be used on cars coming on the market soon. It's important that the designers get a chance to let go because their job is to create dreams. We try to give our concept cars a few years of life, and on average they last 3-4 years.
ACO : Why did you choose the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit for this photo shoot?
DL : The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the heart and soul of this car since everything under its skin was created for this race. We wanted the car to take part, in its own way, in the history of this place by taking a few laps around this legendary track.
