The LM P3 class was launched for this season’s European Le Mans Series (ELMS), with the objective of providing a springboard to endurance racing. Like the LMPC (Le Mans Prototype Challenge) that preceded them, LM P3 prototypes are allowed to take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans Test Day.
Ginetta, the first constructor to have lined up an LM P3 chassis in the first two rounds of the ELMS season at Silverstone and Imola, is represented by the two cars of Nissan’s British partner, Team LNT (No. 74 and 75). Alex Buncombe, Max Chilton and Tsugio Matsuda, three of the nine GT-R LM NISMO drivers (LM P1 class), have been assigned to Team LMT to complete the mandatory ten laps for drivers who are making their Le Mans 24 Hours debut or who have not competed on the circuit for at least five years. Multi-Olympic track cycling champion, Scotsman Sir Chris Hoy, has also come to Le Mans to discover the 24 Hours’ circuit at the wheel of the Ginetta and get his mandatory ten laps under his belt in the hope of competing in LM P2 in 2016.
