Belgian outfit Orlen Team WRT has quickly found the right recipe for its first season in Endurance, taking the highly competitive LMP2 class by storm. After the Frijns/Milesi/Habsburg trio took the class title at the 89th 24 Hours of Le Mans last month, the team clinched the European Le Mans Series crown this weekend after Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye and Louis Delétraz won the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. “To win the two titles in our first campaign and to do it here at Spa, in our home race, is just a wonderful feeling,” explained Team Principal Vincent Vosse. “It’s great also for Robert, Louis and Ye after the immense disappointment of Le Mans.”

Former Formula One star Robert Kubica has crowned his début season in Endurance with the European Le Mans Series title. “We couldn’t expect a better weekend on our home track!  After Le Mans, it was nice to be back racing and put everything behind us. We did a good race, took no risks and our main competitor struggled. We take the championship before it ends, I really want to thank the entire team, my teammates and everybody who made that possible.”

The #30 Oreca 07-Gibson fielded by Duqueine Team took second place in the race with the Panis Racing #65 car completing the podium. Orlen Team WRT’s main rival for the title – G-Drive Racing’s #26 Aurus 01-Gibson – was forced to retire. The race result meant that the Belgian outfit has opened up an unassailable 36-point lead ahead of the season’s final race in Portugal.
In LMP3, the #4 Duqueine M30-D08-Nissan of DKR Engineering edged out Cool Racing’s #19 Ligier JS P320-Nissan. Five points now separate the two teams in the championship race.
The AF Corse #88 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo won the LMGTE battle ahead of the pair of Iron Lynx Ferraris, cutting the #80 car’s lead in the championship standings to 20 points. The title will be decided at the 4 Hours of Portimão on 24 October.
