Over the years, the son of former Formula 1 driver Guy Edwards had built an enviable record in endurance racing, despite his young age (26 years) and he also participated in the Porsche Supercup, in which he was in the lead this year. In the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, he fought against the Danish driver Nicki Thiim, with whom he won the last running of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring .

Earlier, he won the 24 Hours of Dubai with Bernd Schneider and Jeroen Bleekemolen, his team mates also in the Eifel mountains. The FIA GT3 European Champion in 2006, his only appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans was last year in LM GTE Am class  in a Prospeed Competition Porsche 997 RSR (with Abdulaziz Alfaiala and Bret Curtis), which  resulted in retirement.

In his latest tweet, posted on October 13, Sean Edwards was delighted to be going to Australia and  was leaving on that day. When not behind the wheel, the British driver  turned into a coach, and he had just appeared in  the film "RUSH" in which he played the role of his father.

Currently fourth in the GTC class in the American Le Mans Series, Sean Edwards was to be  involved in the Petit Le Mans race this weekend. The ALMS has created a sticker to honour it's driver : cars present at Road Atlanta will display the sticker, designed from  Sean Edwards' helmet.

To his family, his relatives and friends, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest expresses its deepest sympathy.
