The 24 Hours of Le Mans kicks off with a time-honoured tradition: a series of administrative checks and technical inspections, commonly known as Scrutineering. Today and tomorrow, the 62 cars taking part in the 92nd running of the legendary race will roll up at Place de la République in Le Mans city centre and present themselves for  inspection by the race officials. They examine the cars from every angle to make sure they comply with the regulations. The drivers’ papers and kit are also checked.

For race fans, Scrutineering is the first opportunity to get up close to the cars and meet the 186 drivers  competing in the race. Admission is free.

Today,  37 cars have been called up. The first car out will be the Proton Competition #44 Ford Mustang LMGT3, while the #94 Peugeot 9X8 fielded by Peugeot TotalEnergies will bring an end to the day’s proceedings. In between, the scrutineers will review cars from BMW, Lamborghini, Alpine, Cadillac and Isotta Fraschini. Together with Porsche, Ferrari and Toyota, these carmakers are all in contention for overall victory. This year, nine-time Grand Prix motorcycle racing world champion Valentino Rossi will be competing in his maiden 24 Hours of Le Mans, at the wheel of the Team WRT #46 BMW M4 LMGT3. He is scheduled to arrive for Scrutineering at 10.45.   Also keep an eye out for the Iron Dames’ #85 Lamborghini Huracan LMGT3 Evo2, due to make its first public appearance at 12:10. Did you know?  This car’s livery was inspired by the dreams of pupils at the Michel Ange primary school in Le Mans.
