Romain Dumas swaps the Porsche 919 Hybrid for a Porsche 911 rally car

Romain Dumas is a busy man: the Porsche works driver and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Audi in 2010, is all set to drive in the Ypres rally next weekend, ten days after competing at Le Mans again. This time, he will be at the wheel of a Porsche 911 prepared by his own team in a race that counts towards the FIA European Rally Championship.

Not content with merely competing, Romain Dumas founded his own business, RD Limited, early last year. The company is located in his home town of Alès in the south of France and prepares cars for himself and for potential customers. It has now expanded its catalogue with a Porsche built to race in Group R-GT. The car has already featured in the France-Alsace rally, in the World Championship and at the Tour de Corse, an event on the European Championship calendar.

Less than two months after finishing second at the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the second round in the FIA World Endurance Championship, Romain Dumas will be back in Belgium, this time at Ypres for another round of the FIA European Championship.

Dumas, now a Swiss resident, won the iconic Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado in 2014 and came fifth at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year with the Porsche 919 Hybrid. For the rally, he will once again be guided by co-driver Denis Giraudet, who recently partnered Romain’s father, Maurice Dumas, when he won the Rallye du Gard, and who has also navigated for Toyota works driver Stéphane Sarrazin.

While the FIA World Endurance Championship enjoys a long summer break, only resuming on 30 August at Nürburgring, where Romain Dumas has won the 24-hour race four times, the driver will be back behind the wheel of a Porsche at Ypres, from 25 to 27 June.
