Corvette Racing came this close to adding a ninth 24 Hours of Le Mans victory (2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015) to its track record. The #63 Corvette C7.R driven by Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor was in the lead in the LMGTE Pro class one lap from the finish line. Meanwhile, in the wake of having jealously defended its position from the #97 Aston Martin Vantage of Darren Turner, Daniel Serra and Jonny Adam, American driver Jordan Taylor was forced to capitulate to his competitor. To add insult to injury, a flat tire in the unforgettable final lap allowed the #67 Ford GT driven by Harry Tincknell, Andy Priaulx and "Pipo" Derani to snatch second place in LMGTE Pro.
The #64 entrusted to Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Marcel Fässler had to settle for ninth place in the class. There again, a cruel twist of fate determined the outcome for this car when one of Tommy Milner's rear tires blew out during the night and he hit a barrier. To add to the disappointment, this C7.R was leading the LMGTE Pros at the time!
Relive this suspenseful race for the two cars in this great clip.
