Full-time FIA WEC team Project 1-AO is opting for a special look for the #56 Porsche 911 RSR-19 at the upcoming 24 Hours Centenary. Its usual white, orange and blue will give way to an adorable but intimidating green Tyrannosaurus Rex with a fierce mouth and small arms and feet.
The livery made its first appearance at the 12 Hours of Sebring, second round of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. The design is thanks to AO Racing owner-driver P.J. Hyett's kids! He even proudly sports a T-Rex and a unicorn on his helmet as a remindder of his family when he's competing. The "Rexy" livery proved to be an immediate hit with fans, inspiring Hyett to choose it for the 24 Hours Centenary.
Hyett's teammate Gunnar Jeannette: "P.J. and I were thrilled with the fan response to our 'Rexy' livery. It was so warmly received in the North American endurance championship that we knew it was only fitting to bring it to Le Mans. Project 1 and AO are delighted to present it to our international fans at the biggest motorsport event in the world.”
Hyett and Jeannette will team up with Italian driver Matteo Cairoli (six participations in the 24 Hours, including three with Project 1) for the race. Project 1-AO is currently 12th in the FIA Endurance LMGTE Am Teams trophy classification.
Project 1 won the class at the 2010 running of Le Mans with a livery by contemporary artist Richard Phillips.
