Praga R1: Le Mans in the veins

Le Mans prototypes have inspired many of the world's constructors. Often before embarking on the full blown LM P, constructors begin with a car that they can gain experience with. This is what the manufacturer has done with the superb Praga R1.

Created in 1907, Praga is one of the oldest Czech automotive marques, if not the most famous (Škoda). They currently specialize in motorcycles and enduro karting, the firm seeks a breakthrough in the world of endurance racing with the R1.

Although inspired by the "Le Mans Prototype" (LM P), the closed car does not meet the regulations in force in La Sarthe. It does however have advanced characteristics: carbon shell 570 kg, 320 hp engine, all for a mere€100,000.

Although an LM P2 is not yet on the agenda, the presence of Martin Short (Rollcentre) at the head of the "R1" project reflects the ambitions of Praga. Remember that in 2007 the same team took a Pescarolo 01 to a fourth place finish at the Le Mans 24 Hours ...
