A favourite has rarely (maybe never?) suffered such a rout in the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours. Like in the arenas, the Lions gave all they got, but fell one by one in front of the Audi gladiators in their silver armours, after a wonderful and tragic performance. There will be no trace of that dedication in the statistics, but nobody will forget the battle of Montagny, Wurz and Lapierre.

Olivier Quesnel will have to analyse the causes of these repeated failures, but beyond defeat, the Peugeot 908 had already made its reputation as a fabulous car. When stopped at 1.45 PM on Sunday, the 4 completed more kilometres than the other Oreca car which finished fourth! On this Sunday June 13, the supposedly invincible favourite was beaten by an even stronger competitor.
