Le Mans 2014 - Slow zones, a new safety feature

The 82nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will see a new safety procedure based on local 'slow zones' on the circuit.

In this zone, speeds will be limited to 60 km/h in order to facilitate the work of intervention teams. Approaching the neutralization zone will first of all be signaled by a "Next Slow" sign (yellow with black lettering), accompanied by a blinking yellow light and a waving yellow flag. The cars must reduce their speed so as to enter the aptly named "Slow" zone at no more than 60 km/h, indicated with a blinking yellow light and two waving yellow flags. The end of the zone is marked by a blinking green light and a waving green flag during the entire duration of the intervention. When the Race Director decides the end of the partial neutralization zone procedure, all posts will present a green flag accompanied by the removal of the "Next Slow" and "Slow" signs.

From the "Next Slow" to the end of the "Slow" zone, all passing is forbidden. All speeding will be penalized by a stop & go of five-second per km/h over the speed limit (rounding up).
