Le Mans 2008 - Jos Verstappen : veni, vidi, vici!

After a fleshed out career in Formula 1 and several experiences in A1 Grand Prix, Jos Verstappen has been dipping his toes in endurance since 2008. That year, the Dutch driver won it all at the wheel of his Porsche RS Spyder.

Benetton, Simtek, Footwork, Tyrrell, Arrows and Minardi. In eight seasons of Formula 1 and 107 Grand Prix, Jos Verstappen proved without a doubt his speed despite cars that were not always at the caliber of his talent. A true competition addict without any real sports program since he left the F1 paddocks, the Batavian had it in his heart to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, an intriguing event in his eyes.

So when Peter Van Merksteijn, business man who made his fortune in steel, decided to join forces with the Verschuur team to mount a fully Dutch LM P2 project, Verstappen didn't hesitate long before signing on. At the controls of the diabolical Porsche RS Spyder, the rest of the 2008 season was claimed. The Verstappen/Van Merksteijn pair won four out of the calendar's five races, with the exception of Monza which it ended in second place. At Le Mans - the main objective of Jos "The Boss" - the showing was equally as thrilling, not leaving much hope to other LM P2 class competitors.

Best time during qualifying with 3:32.301, the Dutch squadron won the race hands down while climbing to 10th place overall. A performance at the level of Verstappen's ambitions, which followed up the experience in La Sarthe the following year with Aston Martin Racing, Anthony Davidson and Darren Turner. A second participation, less fruitful, he finished 13th overall.
