Driving the SC63 Hypercar set to compete for the first time at the Qatar 1812 km on 2 March, opening round of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship, were factory drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Romain Grosjean. It was the latter's first laps at the wheel of an Italian Hypercar.
Lamborghini and Iron Lynx kept a trained eye on reliability and proper procedures during the sessions. Technicians focused on extended runs to allow the team to collect as much data as possible. The one chassis utilised reached its pre-test goal of covering nearly 2,000 km. Simulations of recurring endurance race procedures, such as restarts and Full Course Yellows, were executed.
Romain Grosjean: "It was a very intense three days, but I am very happy to have been able to work with the team and the car on the track for the first time. The car proved to be very good from the first laps and I can’t wait to put even more kilometres on it during the next tests. It felt really good, and I am happy to be in Almería with the whole team getting to know everyone and the work going on behind the scenes. I am very excited to be here, the car felt really good from the beginning, but obviously we still have a bit of a journey [ahead of us]. But, the work that was done prior to my arrival has been very good and I am looking forward to learning more about the car."
Lamborghini's development programme will pick back up in Europe next week, and then the team will head to the U.S. to continue the IMSA homologation process with a series of testing sessions on North American tracks.
