Jenson Button confident heading into the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Jenson Button is gearing up to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the wheel of SMP Racing's non-hybrid LMP1. The 2009 F1 world champion feels good about his car's reliability following the accident for its sister car at the Total 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

At the age of 38, F1 World Champion Jenson Button is a veteran racing driver. Now retired from Formula 1, he races to win - and for fun - but not at any cost. He has paid close attention to the details surrounding the accident that affected the sister car fielded by SMP Racing, as well as his Le Mans teammates, in early May at the Total 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. The BR Engineering BR1-AER driven by Matevos Isaakyan suddenly went airborne at the Raidillon corner. It was a stunning sight resulting in no injury to the driver thankfully, but it did instigate a safety investigation. On the eve of Test Day tomorrow at Le Mans, Jenson Button explained: "Now I am fully reassured and perfectly confident in my car and team. I appreciate the transparency with which the team has shared with me all information related to the accident...very thorough. As a result, the car has been modified. I tested it at Magny-Cours. I am quite confident." The British driver will join forces with Vitaly Petrov and Mikhail Aleshin for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans (16-17 June).
