Introducing the new Aston Martin Vantage GT8: a taste of Le Mans

Last Friday, Aston Martin unveiled a new road-legal car: the GT8 series of the Vantage. The special limited edition of 150 is inspired by the popular Vantage V8 that Aston runs in the LM GTE Pro and Am classes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Back in 1959, Aston Martin won the French 24-hour endurance race outright. More recently the constructor has celebrated GT class wins with the DBR9 in 2007 and 2008 and an LM GTE Am crown with the Vantage V8 in 2014. The same year the British outfit also snapped up the driver and team trophies in the LM GTE Am class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

At Silverstone this weekend, Aston Martin came third in LM GTE Pro and second in LM GTE Am in the WEC and first and third in LM GTE in the European Le Mans Series.

Eager to showcase its savoir faire on the road as well as on the track, the factory has produced another limited edition, this time of the Vantage V8, to follow last year’s Vantage V12 special series. Under the bonnet is a tuned version of the racing car’s 4.8-litre V8 engine, with 446 horsepower. The rear and side windows are replaced with polycarbonate and the door panels and seats are in carbon fibre, amounting to a weight saving of 100kg.

Transmission on the GT8 is either by means of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed Sportshift TM II paddle-shift automated manual gearbox. The striking car comes in three distinctive colour combinations of China Grey and Blue, Stratus White and Green or Stirling Green and Lime.

Customers will have to wait until the end of the year for delivery—and shell out around £165,000.
