BMW unveiled a special livery for the M6 GTLM that due to compete in the Rolex 24 at Daytona this weekend. The race is a round of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The commemorative design celebrates the carmaker’s 100th anniversary, paying tribute to several key moments in its past.
The #25 displays images that highlight BMW’s contribution to motorsport over the years. On the doors, the BMW 3.0 CSL triggers memories of the first US victory for the company at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1975. Also featured, the M1, the first car developed by BMW for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the eighties.
The design includes the V12 LMR, which was successful at Sebring but also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1999. That era was the beginning of a partnership with Williams and heralded BMW’s Formula One comeback in 2000. Finally, the livery portrays an image of the M3 GT that raced in the American Le Mans Series and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The last time BMW raced an art car at Le Mans was in 2010: the striking #79 M3 GT designed by artist Jeff Koons.
