To meet standards in the GTLM (GT Le Mans) class in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (LM GTE Pro or Am if the car is more than a year old in the other championships based on the regulations put in place by the ACO and the FIA), a car must be based on a series car produced in at least 50 units. The new Ferrari 488 GTE is no exception to the rule.

Though from afar, the GTE version looks like its series cousin, there are differences, as explained by Giacomo Mattioli, the owner of the Scuderia Corsa outfit who has a car in GTLM in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, new name of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. The Californian team was successful at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year with a third place finish in the LM GTE Am class and will be back at Le Mans this year.
