After double success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and American Le Mans Series with the HPD ARX-01c prototype Honda has launched into a new challenge for 2010; that of business aviation.
We know aviation and motorsports have always gone together well since the Second World War. Many technological advances were used by British engineers and constructors in post-war racing. The Mitsubishi fighter type A6M better known as 'Zero' was the terror of American pilots at the beginning of the Pacific War, long before the Mitsubishi Lancer won four consecutive world rally titles for Tommi Makinen .
Today, Honda has launched its first business jet. With a wingspan of 12.2m, the HA-420 HondaJet can carry up to six passengers and two crew at 778km/h (483mph-420knots). It has a unique silhouette with its two jet engines perched above each wing.
Honda's previous 'winged' creation was the famous Gold Wing motorcycle. Will the new jet be 'golden' for Honda? We will find out soon enough. The maiden flight for the aircraft is scheduled for next month and the first delivery in 2012.
