Until today, only Frits van Eerd, owner of the Netherlands’ Jumbo supermarket chain and the racing outfit’s main shareholder, had been confirmed for the driver line-up in the Racing Team Nederland Dallara P217 for the forthcoming World Endurance Championship Super Season. Now, however, the name of one of his two teammates has been revealed: fellow Dutchman Giedo Van Der Garde, 2008 Formula Renault 3.5 title-holder who has driven in 19 Formula One Grand Prix races (Caterham F1 Team).
Van Der Garde is also an experienced endurance driver: he took the European Le Mans Series title in 2016 and competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans the same year, in the #38 Gibson 015S-Nissan entered by G-Drive Racing (with Simon Dolan and Jake Dennis, DNF) with technical support from Jota Sport. If Racing Team Nederland’s application is accepted by the Selection Committee, the Dutchman is all set to compete in his first full WEC season, which includes two 24 Hours of Le Mans races. The list of competitors will be revealed on 9 February!
