Before the bulldozers come in and construction work begins on new buildings near the Ford HQ (from 2021), the Glass House marked the #68 car’s victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the best possible way. The lights in some of the offices were switched on, and the others switched off, to spell out the words GT WINS AT LE MANS on the front of the 12-storey building.
Ford are old hands at organising this kind of trick. In 2008, “Happy 100 GM” was the message to rival brand General Motors in their centenary year. And back in 1967, the building was illuminated in the same way with the words “Won Le Mans” after Ford had clinched a second successive 24-Hours win with the all-American line-up of A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney. For the LM GTE Pro win in 2016, Joey Hand was the sole American member of the three-man team. He and his co-drivers Sébastien Bourdais (France) and Dirk Müller (Germany) came to Dearborn to strike a pose in front of the illuminated building (below).
