For a unique car, a unique marketing campaign. Indeed, potential buyers of a Ford GT, at a cost of 400,000 euros, were invited to register online and demonstrate their motivation. Overwhelmed by the quantity of requests, more than 6,000 for 500 cars, the American manufacturer decided to extend production by two additional years.
The fortunate 500 chosen, who were notified via mail by Ford, will take possession of their cars in 2017 and 2018. The third year of production will be reserved for potential buyers on the waiting list and new registration will be opened in early 2018 for the fourth and final year of production. Interested parties whom have already applied will only need to update their info.
Dave Pericak, Director of Ford Performance (Ford's competition branch): "If we are able to manufacture enough Ford GTs for all the applicants, we will produce additional vehicles to try and satisfy more loyal Ford customers. We want the Ford GT to remain exclusive, but we know these clients are essential to our marque."
The Ford GT won in the LM GTE Pro class at the 2016 24 Hours, 50 years to the day after the Ford GT40's very first win at Le Mans. Two cars compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and two others are entered in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, but all four participated in the 24 Hours this past June.
