FIA WEC - Two official "rookies" named for the test sessions in Bahrain

The two drivers chosen to participate in the FIA World Endurance Championship Rookie Tests at the Bahrain International Circuit on Sunday 7 November are Frenchman Charles Milesi and German driver Laurents Hörr.

Selected by the promoter and organizer of the FIA WEC for their exemplary performances and racing skills, the two young drivers will each complete at least 30 laps at the wheel of the Hypercar and LMGTE Pro winners from this year.

Charles Milesi will get a first glimpse of the performance level of a Hypercar as he is set to drive the new Toyota GR010 Hybrid. The car currently boasts a 51-point lead in the championship. Very few drivers have had the opportunity to test this Hypercar, making this year's Rookie Tests even more special.

This season, Milesi is competing in the FIA WEC in the LMP2 class with Team WRT. The Belgian outfit has turned in a stunning first season, including winning the 89th 24 Hours of Le Mans. Along with Robin Frijns and Ferdinand Habsburg, the 20-year-old French driver has showed outstanding momentum at the wheel of the ORECA 07-Gibson. The team is trailing the class leader, JOTA, by only one point in the championship ahead of the last two races of the season.

Laurents Hörr will test a 24 Hours LMGTE Pro winner, either the Ferrari 488 GTE Evo or the Porsche 911 RSR-19. The 24-year-old German driver won the Michelin Le Mans Cup in LMP3 in 2019 and 2020. This year, he is participating in the European Le Mans Series with DKR Engineering.

Each of the two "rookies" will be given a minimum of 30 laps throughout the day of official test sessions on Sunday 7 November. The five hours of track time will also be available to other FIA WEC teams if they wish to try out potential drivers before season 2022.

Charles Milesi: "I’m really happy with this opportunity, being able to drive a Hypercar and the one that won Le Mans this year, it’s unbelievable. I would like to thank everybody, first WRT because we have had an incredible year so far and also the ACO, the WEC and Toyota for this amazing opportunity."

Laurents Hörr: "I am very happy and grateful that I have been chosen for this year’s rookie test. It means a lot to me to know that people see my performance as a driver. I am very excited to meet this challenge, as I have never worked with a factory team before."

FIA WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien: "This is a fantastic opportunity for these talented young drivers to show off their skills and professionalism to teams representing some of the world’s biggest and most successful automotive brands. It is always nice to be able to help some of the hardest working and most naturally skilled drivers in our paddock and we look forward to seeing how Charles and Laurent perform in Bahrain."

The entry list for the Rookie Tests to be held the day after the 8 Hours of Bahrain, finale of the 2021 FIA WEC season, will be released soon. The two test sessions are scheduled from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00.
