FIA WEC – Toyota takes the pole at 2023 BAPCO 8 Hours of Bahrain

Brendon Hartley placed TOYOTA GAZOO Racing's #8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid Hypercar in pole position at the upcoming BAPCO 8 Hours of Bahrain, final round of the 2023 FIA WEC season. United Autosports and Iron Dames will start from P1 in the LMP2 and LMGTE Am classes, respectively.

Brandon Hartley clocked the fastest time of 01:46.564 at the wheel of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing's #8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid today. This pole position has given the New Zealander and teammates Sébastien Buemi and Ryo Hirakawa a 16-point lead on the crew of the #7 sister car that Kamui Kobayashi placed in P2 on the starting grid. The duel between the two line-ups for the FIA Endurance Hypercar Drivers trophy is on!

Cadillac Racing's #2 Cadillac V-Series.R will start from P3 tomorrow (01:47.265) and Porsche Penske Motorsport driver Kévin Estre scored the fourth spot with the team's Porsche 963. Ferrari AF Corse qualified in fifth and sixth with the #50 499P ahead of the #51. The Hypercar field was rounded out by the #5 Porsche, Proton Competition's #99 Porsche, Hertz Team JOTA's #38 Porsche, Peugeot TotalEnergies' #93 and #94 Peugeot 9X8s, and the #4 Floyd Vanwall.

In LMP2, Tom Blomqvist showed the full extent of his talent at the wheel of United Autosports' #23 ORECA 07-Gibson, clocking a stunning 01:52.29 during his second qualifying lap. Charles Milesi placed Alpine Elf Team's #36 ORECA in P2 trailing the pole by just 0.2 seconds. Team WRT's #31 ORECA, current leader in the FIA Endurance LMP2 Teams trophy standings, will start the race third in the class. The remainder of the top 6 includes Vector Sport ahead of United Autosports and Prema Racing.

Iron Dames clinched the outfit's third pole of the season in the #85 Porsche 911 RSR-19! Sarah Bovy crushed her opponents with a best time of 01:58.692. She and teammates Michelle Gatting and Rahel Frey are looking to win this 2023 FIA WEC finale as well as second place in the FIA Endurance LMGTE Am Teams title run. D’Station Racing's #777 Aston Martin qualified in second position ahead of ORT by TF's #25 Aston Martin. The top 6 was completed by Kessel Racing's #57 Ferrari, Corvette Racing's #33 Corvette and Northwest AMR/Heart of Racing's #98 Aston Martin.
