In the first season of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, the winning Peugeot 908 HDi FAP bids farewell to the competition. In GT, AF Corse added to an impressive final title for the Ferrari F430 GT.
Appearing first in 2006, the F430 GT marked the return of Ferrari in the GT class, with a car jointly developed by Ferrari Corse Clienti and Michelotto for LM GT2. From that first year, Risi Competizione gave it its first American Le Mans Series before accumulating Team and Drivers' titles in the ALMS in 2007 and two consecutive victories in GT2 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2008 and 2009. After that season, Risi Competizione also boasted a unique triple crown; in addition to Le Mans, the American team had also had success at Sebring and Petit Le Mans! Meanwhile, the British Virgo Motorsport added two consecutive double Team and Drivers' titles (Robert Bell) the Le Mans Series in 2007 and 2008.
Eight other teams fielded the F430 GT at Le Mans from 2006 to 2010: AF Corse GPC Sport Farnbacher Racing (now Hankook Team Farnbacher), BMS Scuderia Italia, JMB Racing, Team Modena, JMW Motorsport and Advanced Engineering Team. With this latest Patrick Dempsey, star of "Grey's Anatomy" disputed (and finished!) His first (and last so far) 24 hours in 2009.
In the 1000 km of Zhuhai, Jaime Melo, Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander driving the AF Corse Ferrari, concluded a brilliant career with the F430 GT GT2 Constructors title of the first Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. In 2011, 458 Italia will succeed the to a pioneering, worthy descendant of the 512 BB and Daytona.
