Ferrari and Ford in 2016: a look at the duel shaping up

In 2016, the LM GTE will benefit from two big novelties. After the Ford GT, presented on June 12th the day before the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, last weekend Ferrari unveiled the competition version of its new 488.

Obviously, this coming rivalry brings to mind the Italian-American duel that marked in 1966 and - especially - 1967 some of the most incredible pages in the history of the 24 Hours, with the wins of Chris Amon-Bruce McLaren (Ford Mk II) and Dan Gurney-AJ Foyt (Ford Mk IV). But in 2016, it will be all about class win(s), which won't weaken the intensity of the upcoming fight..quite the opposite since at Le Mans Ford will not only join Ferrari, but also Porsche, Aston Martin and Corvette, on the track among the top echelon of high performance luxury sportscars!

Ford and Ferrari in 2016 is also about a high level technological showdown, with two big firsts in the recent yet already rich history of the LM GTE classes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship (WEC). On one hand, Ford with a carbon fiber chassis (with a very clean aerodynamic rear section giving it the look of a prototype); on the other, Ferrari and the first turbocharged engine in the class. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the WEC where competitors fight at the fenzied pace of a Gran Prix, the records of the LM GTE classes will certainly fall since Porsche, Aston Martin and Corvette surely will not roll over. Looking forward to two amazing novelties...
