Two weeks after his victory in Monaco, Toyota Racing’s Sébastien Buemi claimed a healthy second place. In third place was Audi Sport’s Loïc Duval, his best result in this discipline so far.
It was a great weekend for endurance drivers with no less than seven in the top ten finishers. Nick Heifeld was fifth, Stéphane Sarrazin sixth, Sam Bird eighth, Vintantonio Liuzzi ninth and Nicolas Prost tenth. Daniel Abt and Karum Chandhok (Murphy Prototypes LM P2) were not so lucky this time, coming fourteenth and eighteenth respectively.
Lucas di Grassi of Audi Sport won the race in Berlin but was disqualified for violation of regulations due to modifications on the front wing and front-wheel fairings of his car. This has knocked him off the top spot in the championship. Brazilian Nelson Piquet Jr is now in the lead with 103 points, just ahead of Sébastien Buemi (101). Then come Di Grassi (93) and Nicolas Prost (78). The title is likely to go to one of the four.
It’s now time to concentrate on the next round in Moscow on 6 June and then the endurance racers will be heading for Le Mans for the scrutineering sessions on 7 and 8 June.
