The question we’re all asking as we go into the final round of the season, the 4 Hours of Portimão this weekend is: who is in with a shout of winning the 2022 European Le Mans Series title?
In LMP2, the Driver and Team titles are likely to go to Italian outfit Prema Racing, who have a 24-point lead on Panis Racing. Prema Racing won the 4 Hours of Le Castellet, Imola and Barcelona and is now on course to take the Team crown in its debut ELMS season.
The #13 Ligier-Nissan fielded by Inter Europol Competition leads the LMP3 class with a 19-point lead over the Cool Racing #17 Ligier-Nissan. The Swiss team is the only one in a position to challenge the Polish team for the title.
In LMGTE, the battle for the Driver and Team titles is tighter than in the other classes. It will pit the #77 Porsche 911 RSR-19 from Proton Competition against the Kessel Racing #57 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo and the #60 car from Iron Lynx.
The entry list for the 4 Hours of Portimão features 41 entries: 16 in the LMP2 class, 13 in LMP3 and 12 in LMGTE. The race starts at 14:00 CET this Sunday. Like the other rounds in the European Le Mans Series, the race will be broadcast live on the ELMS Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Also at stake as the season ends are invitations to the centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (10-11 June 2023). The top two finishers in LMP2 will each receive their golden ticket, and the winning team in LMP3 will be invited to compete in the LMP2 class at Le Mans. In LMGTE, the top three teams in the championship will also be invited to race in the French endurance classic.
