This year, Jacob Greaves' outfit has switched out its venerable Gibson 015S for a Ligier JS P2, like Kuba Giermaziak who will go from a GT to a prototype, which the Polish driver was able to discover during two private test sessions at Motorland Aragón in Spain, and official testing at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet.
Giermaziak was noticed for his performances in Porsche Supercup, the mono-marque championship whose races take place as a curtain-raiser to F1 Grand Prix. In 2014, he finished vice champion, just behind Earl Bamber who became an official driver and won overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Porsche 919 Hybrid the following year.
By racing in LM P2, the Polish driver, who won at the 2013 24 Hours of Zolder, will have his childhood dream come true: " I’m very happy to move up to such a great car! It will be absolutely amazing to drive for Greaves Motorsport in the European Le Mans Series and 24 Hours of Le Mans this season in the LM P2 class. It’s a dream come true for me, as driving prototypes was something I wanted to do since I was a little kid. We have everything we need to fight for the championship, with a great team behind us, and Memo and Julien to share the cockpit with. They are both fantastic drivers and I’m sure that we can all learn from each other."
Giermaziak will indeed support Mexican driver Memo Rojas who has won at the Rolex 24 at Daytona three times since 2008 and at the 2014 12 Hours of Sebring, and French driver Julien Canal, winner of the LM P2 Drivers Trophy in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) last year with Sam Bird and Roman Rusinov.
The trio will be hard at work this coming weekend for the 4 Hours of Silverstone, the first round of the 2016 ELMS season.
