Dr Wolfgang Ullrich stays cautious despite the three R18s setting the three best lap times yesterday during the first qualifying session. The Head of Audi Motorsport talks about the future competition with the LM P1 Porsche, whose first pictures have been unveiled last week.
What about the first sessions?
"They were good even if rain disturbed our program. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about the weather, but it's the same for everyone. I think that the track will remain dry during the race."
What do you think of Toyota's performance?
"As their tank is three liters bigger than ours (Toyota's tank is now 76 liters from 73 liters), they might run one more lap each stint and they might save three pit-stops during the 24-hour race. We have to run half a second faster than they do during the race. We have to wait until Saturday night to find out where we are."
During the Test Day, Audi run a "laboratory" car to work on the new 2014 regulations. What conclusion can you draw for this test session?
"It was a basic test to work on future tires. I think that we were able to collect useful datas, but Michelin and not Audi is now using the datas."
The 2014 LM P1 Porsche is now running. When will the new Audi roll-out?
"Around October."
A word about the Porsche?
"I've only seen pictures. I don't know enough about it to comment."
Doesn't it look like a R18 Audi?
"They might use a bit what they've seen in the family (VAG Group). I think that they build a development car... I don't think they will run the car we've seen next year."
Do you exchange information with Porsche?
"There is no official exchange."
Official?
"There is competition between both marques. It is even the most difficult competition we've ever had to deal with. They are coming to win and we stay to win!"
