Actually, they were two of them, the winners in 1991 with Mazda. In F1, Bertrand Gachot was a driver with Jordan, and Johnny Herbert was with Lotus. Neither competed in the full season, but for completely different reasons. The Brit was called during the season to join Lotus to replace Julian Bailey, and the Franco-Belgian did a stint in prison!
During an altercation with a London cabbie, Gachot used pepper spray and was given two years in prison. The sentence would end up being reduced to two months, but during his absence, Eddie Jordan hired a rather talented newcomer, Michael Schumacher, then Alessandro Zanardi. Jordan refused to take back Gachot, who found refuge with Larrousse for the last race in Australia after Eric Bernard's accident.
Nico Hülkenberg and Bertrand Gachot both finished in the points at the Grand Prix of Canada, the first in eighth place one week before the 24 Hours and the second in fifth place a week after Le Mans.
