Daniel Ricciardo (Formula 1) visits the karting circuit at Le Mans

Official Red Bull Racing driver in Formula 1 since last season, this weekend Australian Daniel Ricciardo was in Le Mans at the Circuit International de Karting for the KZ-KZ2 World Championships.

His recent visit to the Le Mans karting circuit was not insignificant. Indeed, Daniel Ricciardo just gave his name to a karting chassis via the constructor Birel ART, a relationship he wishes to develop in the future.

This chassis' history does not date back long. One of the Australian driver's friends who now owns a karting racing outfit told him one day it would be a good idea to develop a chassis in his name. The idea gained ground and this past winter Ricciardo got in contact with Ronni Sala (owner of Birel chassis), just after finishing a full season in Formula 1 as Red Bull Racing's head driver.

A done deal, the name Ricciardo Kart is now on a line of Birel chassis, but that's not all. The Formula 1 driver hopes in the future to invest in the project and take advantage of his experience and ideas to design, produce and develop new chassis with the constructor. It's an opportunity for the driver to get back to his roots, impressed with the professional level of karting these days.

Ricciardo is not the first Formula 1 driver to lend his name to a marque, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton have as well.
