Fresh from victory at Petit Le Mans the Rebellion Racing team welcomes the Chinese driver Cong Fu Cheng for the last round of the FIA World Endurance Championship ... A gamble? Not so!
Teaming up with Harold Primat and Andrea Belicchi on this occasion, in one of two Lola-Toyota LM P1 cars of Rebellion Racing, Cong Fu Cheng is having a successful ascent in motor sport:
• Born on the 15th of August 1984, he started in karting and became champion of China in 1998.
• In 2007 he scored his first podium in China in the former A1 GP series.
• In 2008, he became the first Chinese driver to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans ...
( He finished the 24 Hours in 3rd place in LM P2).
• In 2010, he joined Mercedes in the DTM.
• In 2011, he raced in the round of the ILMC at Zhuhai with Hakkinen driving a Mercedes SLS.
On Sunday, Cong Fu Cheng will attempt to add a podium in the FIA World Endurance Championship to his record of success. It would be another first for a Chinese driver.
Congfu Cheng, driver of Lola Toyota n°13 : "I'm really looking forward to my home race. I really appreciate the opportunity given to me. I knew several members of Rebellion Racing. I've been friends with Neel Jani and Nico Prost since the time of the A1 GP championship. Obviously, to jump into an LM P1 car and racing alongside very good drivers is a challenge, but I am confident in my ability to get a good result here in Shanghai. I am sure that we will get very good results and a good reception from the press and the public given the quality of the team and the fact that I am a Chinese driver in my home country.
The 6 Hours of Shanghai will start at 3 am (UK time) and will be broadcast on lemans-tv.com.
