Classic British Welcome - A 24 Hours of Le Mans driver line-up as Special Guest!

In anticipation of June 2017, the Classic British Welcome has decided to reconnect with tradition by choosing a British automobile marque, Marcos, as Theme and a 24 Hours of Le Mans driver line-up as Special Guest: the famous line-up of the #84 driven by Frédéric Sausset, Christophe Tinseau and Jean-Bernard Bouvet.

Founded in 1959 by Mike Costin and Jem Marsh, Marcos is respected by artisans who have worked to give the U.K. a unique touch of automobile authenticity. That ambition was represented namely by the release in the early 1960s of a sports car sold in kit form at a particulary affordable price. It was named the Mini-Marcos.

A mini with maximum aspirations: 50 years ago the official Marcos Racing team took the start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans! Unfortunately, at the height of the Ford/Ferrari duel, the Mini-Marcos' modest performance prevented it from making it past the third hour of the race.

The last time a Marcos appeared at the 24 Hours of Le Mans was in 1997, with the entry of a Mantara, but once again a lack of reliability rendered it unable to make it to the checkered flag.

"Choosing Marcos as the theme of the 2017 Classic British Welcome pays tribute to creators whom have honoured the commendable goal of enabling as many people as possible to purchase their first sports car, it's the reason our Association exists and we are very pleased," states its president, Stéphane Auvrignon. The Marcos Owner Club, the Club Marcos International and the Mini-Marcos Owner Club will all be present in Saint-Saturnin on Friday, 16 June. "Their participation will facilitate a gathering of 70 to 80 Marcos. According to historians of the marque, to manage to bring together even 70 cars will result in the largest concentration of Marcos ever assembled," explains Stéphane Auvrignon.

2017 Special Guest: the driver line-up Frédéric Sausset-Christophe Tinseau-Jean Bernard Bouvet

The Organising Committee is proud to announce that a very special driver line-up has accepted to attend the 2017 Saint-Saturnin Classic British Welcome as Special Guest: that of the #84 Morgan-Nissan which competed in the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans! Last year, the exceptional adventure undertaken by the trio in Garage 56 at the circuit allowed Frédéric Sausset to become the first quad-amputee to participate in and finish the 24 Hours of Le Mans. "It was a stunning lesson in courage, an unforgettable performance which will remain a highlight in the history of the race. We are honoured and moved this magical trio has accepted to be the Special Guest at our 2017 edition. We are sincerely grateful," expresses Stéphane Auvrignon.
