Cars derived from the GTs seen at Le Mans - Porsche GT3 RS

In the LM GTE class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche does battle with the 911 RSR Type 991. Although this racetrack beast is not road-legal, a very similar model is - the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is not for wimps. The first thing you’ll notice is the muscular appearance that it shares with its racetrack twin, the 911 RSR. Overall dimensions are very similar too – the racing version is just 8 millimetres shorter! The GT3 RS is admittedly wider but its strengths stand up well to comparison. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.3 seconds and rips up the track at up to 310 kph.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is equipped with a 4.0-litre flat-six engine developing 500 hp and is packed with examples of the German marque’s legendary technical prowess: a lightning-fast PDK double-clutch gearbox, impressive brakes, extra-wide tyres providing phenomenal grip, perfect roadholding with the larger diameter (21") rear wheels... the list is endless. Motorsport fans and technology enthusiasts will admire the carbon rear lid with its forged aluminium wing uprights and carbon wing.

In the cockpit, while the instruments and controls have a distinctive sporty design, comfort is the order of the day. Alcantara, leather, galvano silver and carbon are the materials of choice. The starting price tag on this superb car is a cool €184,925 (£131,296) but for this price, you’ll be living the dream that you really are Porsche factory driver Nick Tandy!

Photo: The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is built to burn up the road... or the racetrack. With a bold, assertive front-end and packed with high-end technology, this is as close as you’ll get in a road-legal Porsche to the GTs seen at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
